Camp Maisy

Camp Maisy is a small business that takes care of dogs. However, it is more than dog walking. Its day camp and sometimes overnight camp for dogs. Sandi Manna is Camp Maisy’s pack leader, owner, and principal counselor. She and her associates take the campers, dogs of all kinds and sizes, for trail hikes in nearby forests.

A few years ago I created a responsive website for Camp Maisy. What’s a responsive website? It’s a website that displays content according to the display size of the device: computer, tablet or phone. Wikipedia offers a brief description of Responsive Web Design.

I created the first site from scratch. Sandi provided content and the logo. I put the site together. The Twitter API displayed Sandi’s “tweets” of Camp Maisy campers on the trail. The site could be easily navigated and viewed from phone, tablet or computer but the Tweet page was the only page she could contribute to without my help.

So, recently we re-invented the site:

  • We decided to use the WordPress platform—allowing Sandi to directly control the content.
  • We updated the logo, keeping the original design but changed the colors from muddy brown to blue.
  • We included a “Tweet” page where Sandi posts photos videos and text of camp attendees.

  • Project: Website for Camp Maisy
  • Category: Web Design

Darby, a Yorkshire terrier mix, started at Camp Maisy when he was still a puppy. On the days when the Camp Maisy van comes to ferry him to camp he gets super excited to see Sandi. I took this video with my phone one morning this spring. He stares out the window longingly for Sandi’s arrival.

Together, Maisy and I interviewed, walked with and hosted almost 400 guests from puppies to seniors.
